Philosophy

At We Care Daycare & The Children's Center, we believe every child is a capable, curious, and valued member of their family and community. Children learn best through meaningful relationships, play, exploration, and discovery.

Our programs foster a strong sense of belonging, where children feel respected, supported, and encouraged to be themselves. We provide safe, inclusive, and engaging environments that support children's social, emotional, physical, cognitive, language, and creative development.

Educators use daily routines and program plans as flexible guides, responding to children's interests, ideas, and experiences. Through play-based and inquiry-focused learning, children are encouraged to ask questions, solve problems, collaborate, experiment, and develop independence, creativity, communication, and resilience.

We see children as lifelong learners and our educators as guides who support and extend their learning. Above all, we want every child to feel heard, respected, included, and empowered to thrive.

Daily Snacks

We provide three snacks each day —
AM (6:30–9:00 AM),
mid-day (10:00–10:30 AM), and
PM (2:30–4:30 PM, times vary by room).

Our four-week rotating menu is posted in every room, the kitchen, and the parent board, and is posted below.

Lunches are provided by parents. We do not serve lunch.

Nut-Free Centre

The safety and well-being of every child is our priority. We are a nut-free centre to help reduce the risk of accidental exposure for children with severe nut allergies.

We ask families not to send foods containing peanuts or tree nuts, including products that may contain or have been processed alongside nuts. Our staff take care to follow proper food-handling and cleaning practices to help maintain a safe environment for all children.

Families are required to inform the centre of any allergies, food sensitivities, dietary restrictions, cultural preferences, or medical dietary needs. While we make every effort to accommodate dietary requirements, families may be asked to provide alternative snacks when necessary.

Staff Qualifications

Working with children on a daily basis requires specialized knowledge and skills to ensure daily programming and interactions are positive and challenging.
All staff members at our facility hold Early Childhood Development certificates and have been certified by the Government of Alberta.

All staff members must provide the center with original and recent policy security clearances prior to start work at our center. It is also a policy at our center that all staff working with children must have first aid certificates.

Our educators also periodically attend workshops either online or in person as professional development and lifelong learners.

Subsidy

Subsidy is available only for eligible families with children enrolled in Out of School Care (OOSC). To determine your eligibility and apply, please visit:
http://humanservices.alberta.ca/financial-support

If you are applying for subsidy, you must be approved prior to your child starting at the Centre. Proof of subsidy approval must be submitted to the office before your child begins attending. If you choose to start care before receiving approval, you will be required to pay the full monthly fee, and a credit may be applied the following month if applicable.
If your OOSC child does not attend for the minimum 50 hours per month as required by the subsidy program, you will be responsible for the difference.

Please Note:

It is your responsibility to ensure your subsidy is kept valid and up to date. If your subsidy expires and is not renewed on time, you will be charged full fees until proof of renewed approval is submitted.

Because the subsidy office can be quite busy, we strongly recommend submitting all renewal documents at least one (1) month prior to the expiry date to avoid any disruptions in coverage. If you submit documents late, you may need to appeal to have your subsidy backdated—this is not guaranteed.

Subsidy applications can be completed online at the website above.
We are happy to assist with your application—we can provide a computer for use, and we are able to fax or scan any required documents.
Our door is always open to help!
